Who it's for The best passive pick, and the student value pick, when gel seals and an AUX jack matter
Skip it if No Bluetooth, no ANR, and the cable is not included.
See price at AmazonBluetooth in an aviation headset is a convenience layer on top of the intercom. It is how a phone call, a music source, or an app alert reaches the ear cup without a wire. It is not a substitute for the aircraft radio, and it costs battery life.
Zulu 3
The Zulu 3 is the Bluetooth pick. You get wireless audio and a wired AUX jack, plus ComPriority so a transmission drops the entertainment volume. The user guide's warning is the useful one: heavy Bluetooth use can cut the up-to-40-hour battery figure by a lot. Turn Bluetooth off when you are not using it. Lightspeed says so in the guide.
Bose A30
The A30 uses Bluetooth 4.2. Bose rates 25-plus hours with Bluetooth running continuously, against at least 45 hours without it. Buy the A30 if you were already buying it for the three ANR modes. Do not buy it only to avoid a 3.5 mm cable.
The DC ONE-X also has Bluetooth. The ONE-X review has the price, about $1,020 at Aircraft Spruce, and the 5-year warranty. It loses this category to the Zulu 3 on price and warranty length.
Headsets people assume are wireless
The KA-1 is not a Bluetooth headset. The jack is wired. The cable is extra. The same is true of the P1 and of the RA200's 3.5 mm input. The P1 is the budget pick, and it is passive, with no ANR and no Bluetooth. The H10-13.4 has neither Bluetooth nor an AUX jack on the standard model. The RA950 is ANR without Bluetooth. Rugged has marketed a separate Bluetooth streamer as an accessory. This page does not count an accessory as built-in Bluetooth, and it does not re-test that accessory.
If the goal is ForeFlight alerts specifically, the iPhone and ForeFlight guide covers wired and wireless paths. If the goal is a student headset, Bluetooth is optional. The student page points at the KA-1 for regular training and the P1 when the budget is the constraint, with the limits attached.
The comparison chart lists price, weight, NRR, ANR, Bluetooth, plug, and warranty for every headset in this catalog.
